Teaching Japanese is my career, and I have been teaching Japanese for many years.

I started out as a Japanese learner many years ago. The Japanese language and culture have really helped me a lot in my life. Apart from using Japanese in my professional life and to enjoy its entertainment, I also embrace some of its cultural values in my personal life, such as a profound respect and reverence for nature.

I was a beginner in learning Japanese when I started studying Japanese at university. Although I found it difficult to learn especially at the beginning, the Japanese teachers at the university encouraged and helped me a lot, which inspired me to help other students achieve what my teachers had helped me achieve. It was a difficult time, but this experience inspired me to become a Japanese teacher.

While I am not Japanese myself, I believe that my experience as a Japanese learner and teacher has given me a deep understanding of the obstacles that Japanese learners face, which enables me to help them more effectively.

Other than passing the highest level of Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT-N1), I have completed a 420-hour Japanese teacher training course organised in Japan, which is recognised by the Japanese government to teach Japanese as a foreign language. I found that the techniques and skills I learned there are very helpful.

I believe that students learn best when they know they can really use what they have learned in the lessons. I usually simulate some common scenarios that we will encounter in daily life so that students will know the grammar and vocabulary better and use them naturally in different situations. To ensure students gain the most in my lessons, I spend almost 80% of the lesson time for students to practice Japanese conversation. I think this style of teaching and lesson planning makes students excited to learn.
